Space Future has been on something of a hiatus of late. With the concept of Space Tourism steadily increasing in acceptance, and the advances of commercial space, much of our purpose could be said to be achieved. But this industry is still nascent, and there's much to do. So...watch this space.

Rescheduled launch date not set
The SpaceX launch of their rocket, Falcon 1, has been scrubbed. According to CEO of Space Explorations, Elon Musk, "an auxiliary liquid oxygen ( LOX) fill tank had a manual vent valve incorrectly set to vent. The time it took to correct the problem resulted in significant LOX boiloff and loss of helium, and it was the latter that caused the launch abort."

Space Shuttle Columbia explodes
On Saturday, February 1, 2003, the Space Shuttle Columbia exploded over Texas. Columbia, on its twenty-eighth mission, was on its descent after a sixteen-day journey as it broke up. There were no survivors.

Pioneering rocket engineer, dead at 79
Maxwell Hunter, one of the America's most experienced rocket designers, died on November 10 at the age of 79, joining the sadly long list of people who should have been able to visit space for themselves.

...Duped by Own Space Agency?
On October 27 the British government published its reply to the recent tenth Report of its Select Committee on Trade and Industry which had recommended an independent review of launch vehicle investment policy, including the issue of passenger travel. This was the first time that any country's space policy has been challenged on this issue at such a high politicial level - and the Blair government's response illustrates well the bitter resistance of the existing 'space industry' to long-overdue change - because it totally ignores the central economic issue raised by the Select Committee!
