Sending Jerrie Cobb to space

Greetings,

Does anyone recall the women who who went through the Mercury
astronaut training program in 1959-1961? They were selected, and put
through the program by a private company hired by NASA to see if women
has "the right stuff" -- twenty five women were tested and 12 of those
passed, then NASA canceled the program and required jet test pilot
experience of all future candidates. One of these women, Cobb (age 67)
since they are going to put John Glenn (age 76) back up, wants to have
the chance to go. Since John Glenn's trip is being justified as
studying the effects of space on age, it seems only reasonable (and
indeed, highly advisable) to send a woman as well.

There is more information at

So far it seems NASA has ignored the situation. There is a petition to
bring the issue up with NASA -- they ask you to write to NASA director
Daniel S. Goldin at 2 Independence Square, 300 E St. SW, Washington,
DC 20546, Fax: (202) 358- 2810.

	Thanks,
