Space Future has been on something of a hiatus of late. With the concept of Space Tourism steadily increasing in acceptance, and the advances of commercial space, much of our purpose could be said to be achieved. But this industry is still nascent, and there's much to do. So...watch this space.

For the benefit of humanity
Yesterday, October 7, 2009, the X-Prize Foundation announced that Masten Space Systems completed the first stage toward winning the Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander Challenge. Masten’s vehicle, Xombie, successfully completed two vertical take-offs and landings, at 93 and 91 seconds, respectively. But with other challengers such as BonNova nipping at Masten’s heels, the race for the US$2 million purse is far from over.

A balanced collection that should produce balanced results
An independent review of NASA's human spaceflight plans is currently underway. This committee, which includes former astronauts, professors, CEOs, and a former Air Force General, will conduct a study on NASA's plans, as well as look for alternatives to make human spaceflight of making human spaceflight "safe, innovative, affordable, and sustainable."

Sisters half a world apart
On 31 January 2009, the New Mexico-based Spaceport America (NMSA) has announced that Spaceport America now has a new “sister spaceport.” The NMSA has successfully entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with officials of Spaceport Sweden, based in Kiruna, Sweden.

Because tackling hurts less in zero g
We knew it was going to happen: sports free from the limitations of gravity. Following the bouncing ball takes on a whole new meaning when the ball can bounce of the ceiling, walls, floor, and especially when it's still in the hands of the player, also bouncing off the ceiling, walls, and floor.

And what this means for space tourism
Moffett Field, near San Jose, California, US -- On Saturday October 25, 2008 an airship flew into San Francisco Bay. Its graceful entrance over the Golden Gate Bridge marked the return of a classic form of travel not seen since before World War II. The Zepplin NT airship, built in Germany by Zepplin Luftschifftechnik GmbH, is a direct descendent of the giant airships which were a familiar sight in the 1920's and 30's.
