Space Future has been on something of a hiatus of late. With the concept of Space Tourism steadily increasing in acceptance, and the advances of commercial space, much of our purpose could be said to be achieved. But this industry is still nascent, and there's much to do. So...watch this space.

Astronaut grammatically exonerated
According to an article in the Houston Chronicle, Armstrong did in fact use the grammatically correct phrase, "One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" during his transmission of the lunar landing in 1969.

The 3rd annual Space Medicine Conference will be taking place on 30 September and 1 October 2006 in the UK National Space Centre in Leicester. Topics will include the medical implications of space tourism and surgical care in space.

Businesswoman becomes next space tourist
American-Iranian businesswoman Anousheh Ansari will be the next space tourist to travel to the International Space Station. Ansari will be replacing Japanese businessman Daisuke Enomoto, who did not pass his physical examination.

Malaysians hold conference on space and Islam
Space travel holds some unanswered questions for observant Muslims, but the most important is "which way is Mecca?" To answer that, Malaysia's National Space Agency held a conference in late April.

Virgin Galactic testifies at the House Subcommittee on Space
An article on CNN.com talks about the imminent future of space tourism. Author Leonard David, moonlighting from Space.com, writes that Burt Rutan of Scaled Composites and Will Whitehorn of Virgin Galactic testified to the House Subcommittee on Space as to their plans: a fleet of suborbital vehicles.

Able to launch vehicles from Cape Canaveral
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — AERA Corporation, a leading luxury commercial space travel provider, announced today that it has signed a “Commercial Space Operations Support Agreement” with the United States Air Force (USAF). The agreement, effective for, and renewable after five years, establishes the ground-rules that will apply to AERA’s proposed access to launch facilities and launch support services at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

Space Future has expanded to a new website: Space Future Japan. On the Web at http://www.spacefuturejapan.com/ or http://www.uchumirai.com/, Space Future Japan will provide unique content in the Japanese language, aimed at the over 127 million people who live in Japan. (‘Uchumirai’ is ‘Space Future’ in Japanese).
