According to this CNN article , SpaceShipOne will be enjoying a healthy retirement at the Smithsonian Institute's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C..

SS1 is displayed next to the Spirit of St. Louis, the history-making trans-Atlantic airplane. Both crafts were built in response to flight competitions.

According to a museum official, 24 million people visited the museum in 2004. This means SS1 has a chance to inspire the general public over 24 million times.
